What it will be

“The garden will feature native plantings, shaded pathways, open meadows, and lowland landscapes that support biodiversity and integrate natural stormwater management.”
Cadence, the garden's landscape architects
  • Florida-native plantings, shade trees and palms
  • Shaded, winding paths and open meadows
  • Lowland gardens that hold and filter stormwater
  • A passive park: gardens and paths, not ballfields
  • Phase one: an 8-foot perimeter wall (about 580 feet) and the drainage

Cadence calls it “a model for rewilding underutilized urban land”, designed to show how native plants and wildlife change through the year.

Questions about the garden

Straight answers, from the City's own records.

When will Glenwood Garden open?
The City has not published an opening date. Construction starts with the groundbreaking on Wednesday 28 October 2026; phase one is the perimeter wall and the drainage.
Can the public use it?
Yes. It is a City of Oakland Park park, planned as a passive garden: paths, meadows and native plantings for walking and quiet time.
Will it be lit at night?
The City has not published a lighting plan. It is designed as a passive garden, not a sports park, so there are no ballfields or stadium lights in the plan.
Where exactly is it, and how close is it to 3541 NE 13th Ave?
At 1265 and 1279 NE 35th Street in Oakland Park, about 0.53 acres. The two homes at 3541 NE 13th Ave sit beside the lots, and their back balconies look straight over them.
Who designed it?
Cadence, the landscape architects, on a design contract the City Commission approved in June 2025 with Flynn Engineering. State Contracting & Engineering is the construction manager.
Is it a dog park?
No. It is a botanical garden. For courts, a playground and a pavilion, Greenleaf Park opened downtown on 27 August 2026, a short walk away.
